MBT Subtyping Module (RUO)

The MBT Subtyping Module combines the identification of important pathogens with automated subsequent detection of specific marker peaks, all in one workflow. The superb discriminatory power of Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Time-Of-Flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry allows for the accurate and fast identification of thousands of microorganism species, while powerful software automatically performs typing and result reporting.

Differentiation of closely related species

Bruker’s MALDI Biotyper®has revolutionized microorganism identification over the past decade. Its high discriminatory power allows for identification of thousands of different species, but there are some genera still difficult to differentiate. The MBT Subtyping Module enables the automated detection of specific marker peaks, and provides confidence in microbial identification.

Bruker developed the MBT Subtyping Module to overcome differentiation hurdles in microorganism identification, which now allows for automated differentiation of Mycobacterium chimaera from Mycobacterium intracellulare, of the three difficult to distinuish Elizabethkingia species and of Listeria monocytogenes from its close relatives.

Detecting resistance markers

The need for powerful microorganism differentiation spans multiple industries, from detecting antibiotic resistance in healthcare facilities and tracing infectious outbreaks, to surveillance and epidemiological studies in food animal production. The MBT Subtyping Module enables fast detection of resistance markers specific to these applications.

Antibiotic resistant bacteria are on the rise and effective prevention and control is therefore of high importance in healthcare. MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry has the potential to identify specific resistance markers, and the MBT Subtyping Module provides a warning about a potential resistance. It combines the identification of important pathogens with automated subsequent detection of specific resistance markers in one automated workflow.

Available now, as an early warning system, is the quick detection ofblaKPCexpressingEnterobacteriaceae, PSM-mec carrying MRSA andcfiApositiveB. fragilisstrains.

No additional sample preparation

To acquire a typing result, no additional sample preparation is required once the samples are directly transferred to MALDI target plates. When the bacterium has been identified, the software automatically performs the typing and result reporting, ensuring efficient laboratory practice and rapid time-to-result.
